So here's my problem. I just brought home a 90gal tank that I bought from a member at another site. I get it home, and discover the sand is unlevel as all hell. So, how do I level it out? We fought with if for a bit by putting cardboard underneath, layer by layer, trying to get it even. But, its late, and just when I started to get it so it wasn't too wobbly, I'd add another where I thought it needed it, and it made it worse. I'll fight with it some more tomorrow, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions? How do you guys level out un-even tanks and stands?

Cardboard will play hell trying to situate it correctly, will compress too much after installation, and disintegrate if it gets wet from spills. Get a few foundation/framer wedges from home depot and hammer them under the side of the stand needing adjustment. Once set, you can cut the excess away so it's undetectable. These thin, tapered hardwood wedges are used to even load bearing walls and floors in homes. They'll certainly handle the weight of your tank.
If you have scrap hardwoods around your home shop, you can save on gas to home depot and cut your own. These wedges are about a foot long and taper from a point to 3/8" and are 4" wide (on average).

Okay...these framer wedges, are they what other people are telling me to use - wood shims? Or are those different?

Lol you'll have to excuse the incredible stupidness of this...I've never had problems with unlevel stands (and I can't BELIEVE just HOW unlevel this one is!), and I'm a woman...so I really know nothing about this stuff :)
