What should I be looking for to see if their healthy? they are senegal and the LFS is pretty clean, alot better then the other ones around.

look at every single part of its fins. That's the first thing for me. Next see if they are skinny or not and if they have cloudy eye (very unlikely).
aslo see if they still have both barbels and if there are any signs of body damage such as scrapes.

No damaged/missing fins. Mine is missing two fins on its left side. You don't want that.

Also ask the owner to feed them infront of you. This will help determine the healthiest/most dominant ones of the group

Bichir in my tank are finicky eaters. All bichir will eat eventually. Maybe not in front of you. I would say make sure scales look good. No frayed fins and make sure eyes are clear and not foggy.

Ya make sure the fins don't have birth defects and no ripped or frayed. Though, the ripped and frayed fins will definately heal overtime.
