So I know there is a love/hate relationship for LFS, some are terrible and some are wonderful. My favorite LFS now knows me by name, and I often have long conversations with the employees and owner about our tanks and how our fish are doing. They are always very helpful and happy to answer any questions I have. They often cut me special deals because they love me (got my new 4" red belly for $6 when the tank price was $15 :naughty:) So I'm sure you guys have a good relationship with your LFS too, so let's hear how close you are to your LFS owners/employees and how it has benefited you!

Wow I am not that close with my LFS. But they don't bother hovering around me when I walk in cause I am there at least once every 2 weeks. Unfortunately they hired this new guy who knows enough to work but not enough to always give the right information. Ohh well what can you do.

There are 4 LFS that I have gotten very "close" with. I breed africans and gold severums for them, they get me the fish that I want! They ask me questions. Great conversations!

:WHOA: LUCKY!!! When my Piranhas get older and hopefully breed, I have discussed with them about possibly being their piranha supplier! :D

I'm very close with one LFS. they usually ask ME questions about fish keeping lol. If the boss isn't there, they will literally hand me things off the shelf for free. I also have bred some CRS for them so they will hook me up with fish once in a while.

I try to provide as much intelligent conversation as I can to my local LFS. They're really knowledgeable, though. Father and step son team and they really bang out the quality. They have let me adopt a few "special" fish, like my deformed sunfish (see gallery) and a Jade Goby with what appears to be a terminal infection.
I still can't talk them out of using feeder goldfish, though. I think I've told the owner about thiaminase at least five times. He just doesn't want to hear it, I think. They otherwise do a great job of spotting illness and quarantining, etc.
And I have gotten the occasional discount on an oddball fish here and there, too.

I have a pretty good relationship with mine. But they are very awkward to talk to. It is a married couple who have been doing this for like 25-30 years. He Specializes in africans. They have some great breeding pairs!

They hook me up when I go in. But are kinda expensive for a poor kid. Way better than the ones in Des Moines though.

Growing up in Ohio, there was a LFS I would always go to. RJ's Aquarium in Newark/Heath, Ohio. Owned by a brother and sister, which was started by there father. Best prices around. They could get you about anything. Also Bought my 125 gallon tank/stand. Look forward to visiting them, when I go back to visit family this summer.

Unless I feel like driving an hour I only have one LFS to visit and they know it :D

I know the owner and he gives me a call if he as the ability to get some Piranhas, other then red bellies, I know a few of the employees and get a discount every now and then. I normally get free food/supplies when something new comes in... I think its just the owners way of getting me and my fish hooked on something new :D Sometimes it works sometimes I give that crap away
