I am researching these guys and my local fs has 4 inch frontosa for 35 a piecs.Im not sure which species it is and Im not sure he knows..He deals with mostly salt water fish...So my question is ,is 35 too much if they are the "hybrid" type ?or should I try to find some zaire frontosa on the net..(and pay much more)I will be getting 4.I dont want a frontosa only tank..I have a 180 gallon with peacocks....thanks

Wait you want fronts and peacocks... So you are prepared with extra tanks if there are problems right? I am not saying it doesn't work, but at least let the fronts be in the tank for a few months before introducing the peacocks. As for prices... well it all depends on the area. Often I hear even petsmart or petco had fronts for sale now. So if you don't care about breeding (and the exact look) them then look for the cheapest. Also you might want to check up with your local fish clubs for cheap good quality fish. (IE I can think of at least 4, but I am sure there are many more up there.)

I wouldn't buy from a LFS unless it has very distinguished markings and clean patterns. It's most likely your common Burundi. If you want a nice blue Frontosa (Gibberosa) I'd invest that $35 dollars into a Zaire fry (whether it be a Moba, Kapampa, Kitumba) and grow it out. Hands down the prettiest of the variants! Or pay a little more and get a juvie/sub-adult. Also, check Cyphos.com for other hobbyist selling off or thinning out their colony. GL.

:iagree:and also those little suckers are mean for no reason peacocks that is much meaner than fronts

Go with all males and get different variants. It would be a pretty cool setup. If you get them all when they are little then only the Alpha will grow bigger faster. The others will stay alot smaller, but still grow.

If you are going to only get 4, then recommended is 1 male and 3 females.

true my male peacock keeps all 7 fronts in line... I am separating them because of it...
and another thing about them is that they grow much faster than fronts so the bullying becomes more intense or at least untill the front isnt small enough to bully anymore but hey if thats the type of fish u like go for it brother because they are both nice looking fish in my eyes

yes I have peacocks already in my 180..About 15 of them male and female...They are all pretty laid back to this point..They are 3 -4 inches a piece...Im not looking to breed them...I just think they are a pretty fish...I really thought they would get along with the peacocks...They arent mbunas...I thought peacocks were pretty tame...From the research Ive done everyone says do an all frontosa tank or atleast 4..1 male and 3 females..Why?Would I be looking for trouble if I only got 2 ???

The minimum would be a trio, 1M 2F. If you don't have more than a couple then the smallest will get the brunt of the aggression from the Alpha and can be killed. With a single Alpha male and a couple females then there will not be any male/male aggression, just the typical feats of strength for breeding.

Usually if you go all males then go for 4 as well. Then there will not be any competition for breeding, just competition for who will be Alpha.

If you want multiple males and females get 5. 2 males, 3 females.
