Went to LFS today and they had a salt water great barracuda for $50. I was half tempted to get it but wanted to Google it first. I am in the process if researching them. Does any one have one? How long can I keep it in a 220 gal tank? What can I feed it?

That's a real barracuda, not some freshwater fish that is called a barracuda...what's more it is not a characin.
I remember snorkeling in the Bahamas a few years ago and a young one about that size was following me around for a while.I not sure how fast they grow but they get up to around five feet long if I'm not mistaken. They are open water hunters but could probably trained to eat different types of fresh seafood.

I was not sure ware to put it. I am now wishing I had picked it up. Though I had other stops to go to after the LFS so was not home till 6 hours after the LFS. I may call them next week to see if they still have it.

The shop I worked at years ago would bring in twelve inchers from time to time...One thing to consider is even though the fish is small and might be a slow grower,it could be skittish or easily startled and could bolt forward with great speed only to crash into the sides of the tank.

Few years ago a LFS in central Manchester near me had one pushing two feet in a 10 ft tank , but its nose was bent up and battered from smashing the tank very unfortunate as it made a stunning fish look ugly and depressed , I'm guessing from the size and speed of these guys in the wild tanks aren't the best for them unless aquarium/zoo sized

Good guess Danny.

Well on Sunday I decided to get the barracuda I did not have time to pick it up till Wednesday morning though. So Wednesday morning came and I took off on my bike to go pick it up. On the way up I saw that it was just past the time when they opened up sot I stopped and gave them a call. And they said they had sold it :-( The guy said they can order more if I wanted one and they may be getting some fresh water barracuda in. So I sent him an email with a list of fish that I am looking for. So we will see what they get in when.
