It sounds like a spotted bullhead. Ameiurus serracanthus.

I have one and they are very cool cats. ONe of the few North american cats that do well in warmer waters.

I got my spotted bullhead from my favorite LFS as a 'wood cat' I don't know if sunpet or TFD sent it to him. I knew exactly what it was when i saw it and for $5 it saved me a trip to GA/FL to catch one. by far my favorite bullhead. I keep him with 6 blood parrots, a L/F Tiger Oscar, albino senegal bichir, O. niger and a TSN. He's one of the most active and entertaining cat i've had. you'll engoy it.

most bullheads will eat anything they can fit in their mouth (or that they think they can fit in their mouth )

Very active, but very pretty. The colors stay when they get bigger? how big is yours? How big is your TSN?
