I was looking at my two African Cichlid tanks yesterday and made an observation that I purchased most of them from one LFS. Even though I have well over 20 fish stores in a 50 miles radius (including a Big Al's 1 mile from home), I bought 75% of my Africans from World Wide Aquarium in Upper Darby (18 mile trip).

I stopped in today and decided to count the number of tanks with African Cichlids. There were 90 !!!!! Most all were 10G tanks. They had six 30G tanks for the bigger fish. About a third of the tanks had either one or two large (3-4") fish (usually the best stock). No wonder why I spend so much time shopping (and buying) there.

Anyone have a LFS with a similar number of African Cichlid tanks? I didn't count the number of CA, gold fish, and community tanks; maybe next trip.

We have Waterbury Aquarium here in Connecticut, which is a Monster like fish store. Its just a hole in the wall place in a strip mall, but they have about 100 tanks, 35 are just African Cichlids. They have some real monster SA cichlids in some bigger tanks that are just scary looking as well. They also have a nice selection of Marine stock. Its a real no frills place with all wood framed tank stands, tons of used equipment for sale, big feeder pens on the floor etc.

But the fish are all very healthy and have great color. You should check it out if you are in the area.

we got 72 tanks at wrk and two are malawis and one is for tangs. kinda sux but since i get to put the fish up, i got first pick!

HERE IN FORTWAYNE ALL THE LFS EITHER HAVE BABIES AND YOU CAN,T TELL THE SEX OR THEY WANT TO CHARGE YOU $45 DOLLARS FOR AN ALLRIGHT MALE AND THEY DON,T REALLY HAVE THAT MANY TANKS OF AC'S

Here's a quote i've heard, i think it may be true "There are more reef keepers in southern California (LA) then any 5 states combined"

Every LFS i know of is Salt Water, the one with the best FW selection has 4 African cichlid tanks. I don't have access to all these exotic fish like you guys have, usually 2 of the 6 or so tanks are devoted to yellows and electric Johnny cichlids. But man... those reef keepers CRY when they hear of our collection, lol.

 On second thought, you're right. It is only an 1 1/4 hour drive. I am sure some fish heads out there would be jumping up and down if they had a great store that close.
I will be planning a field trip soon to Lansing. I have heard great things about that store.
