So was at my LFS looking for a Bichir. I need another Peacock Bass like a hole in my head especially a fry. However, I see a new shipment out of quarantine I go over to see the baby PB. They are marked Striped Peacock Bass. I am liked what are the really ? a few calls to the importer and they say the same. I am always so curious to watch them grow up and change so I just bought one. What is everyone's guess on this one.

Usually lfs get in either mono/ocell or a hybrid of those two. After watching a few videos of breeding cichla in other countries, They are miss labeling the cichla and doing cross breeds. For example. One video they called a mono a xingu and bred it with another species. For that reason, I won't buy cichla from a local fish store unless i am certain on a species.

Both look xingu to me. I’m far from an expert but I have seen/ sold close to 40 xingu in the last few months and they look like that when they are stressed out. But usually have a solid black line across the lateral line.
