Hit 3 of my LFS today and was pleasantly surprised.
First one (Waterworld) had no monsters, but lots of baby Clown Loaches - a good few oddballs, but I had to resist temptation! Wish I had more tank space!
Second one (Coral Reef) had quite a few interesting fish. Topaz (?) puffers, Queen arabeque plecos, a reticulated ray, some nice big Geos and a pair of fish labelled as Aequidens cichlids. Looked like a male and a female, male was chasing other tankmates, and they looked great. Found a pic online of similar fish. Anyone know what species it is? Pic below.
Last shop (Aquarium Design) has the odd monster that someone trades in. In the past they've had big plecos, pacu, a big Jardini one time and they occassionally have juvie silver aros and Lima shovelnose for sale. This week they've got a great looking RTC and a nice dolphin shark someone traded in. Both around a foot long. Sorry, no pics - girlfriend had camera today - bummer!
I like days like this!

Those days are far and few in my world.

What makes it even better is that it's been nearly two months since I visited them as I've been recovering from knee surgery and havn't been getting out so much. It's fun to hit a good few in one afternoon. Even bought a new fish!
Jeez....I really am turning into a fish geek!

I try and get out a couple times a month to see the new stock. I did that yesterday and ended up getting a secong Dovii hoping for a male this time.

That fish looks like a juvie gold acara to me. Aequidens metae.

The ones I saw had the same shapes and stripe, the were about 4 inches long, one had the yellow pectorals like the pic above, which I guessed was the female. The other had clear pectorals, but the fins below (can't remember what they are called!) were silvery grey (male?). If I had the space I'd love to get them. They were priced at £18 ($36) for the pair.
Looked at Google Image pics for Metae, but they didn't look like the fish I saw. This pic IS the fish I saw.

well that pick says its a sp. so it is probably undescribed and dosnt have a true name!

From the searches I've done, I think you could be right. That would make this quite a rare fish then? I thought they looked great. Found that pic on a Venezuelan site - lots of cool fish.

Makes me wanna buy them now - only had two in the shop and by colour differences and behaviour, I'd say they were a male/female pair.....breeding a rare cichlid? Now THAT could be fun! Wish I had the tank space.....
