yes but you won't miss the hurricanes..i love the long island sound..you will really enjoy it in the summer..

haha actually, ill take a hurricane over a snow storm anyday. id rather my fish go w/o filters/ oxygenation for a few days thn that + no heating...lol. im thinkin about heading down to the sound next weekend. ill see wat i can get...

i went up there last year in dec, jan and feb and did ok, a few nicley sized stripers 19"-22" may/june is the best time IMO for LI sound striper fishing

no big fish till the spring and fall..... you can catch hearring now or in a few weeks

There is no closed Striper season in LI sound or in the rivers, in Connecticut or Mass. The sound doesnt hold many fish at this time of the year, but the Rivers (such as the Thames) will hold HUGE numbers of school sized bass with a few keepers mixed in. A 48.5 inch bass was weighed in at a local tackleshop just this past saturday. That fish is the exception to the rule though. Most fish caught are between 16 and 26 inches, with a few over the 28 inch "keeper" mark. a 2-300 fish day for 3 people is not uncommon from a boat. Most boat guys will find and chase the schools and vertical jig with a 1/4 ounce to 3/4 ounce jig depending on current and the depth of the school. Fishing from shore the best bet is a 1/2 ounce storm shad or 1/2 ounce jig retrieved as slow as you can without getting snagged on the bottom.

Good point richard4878 I was down there last Saturday 1/12 caught 25 stripers biggest was 29 inches from shore using a Zoom Pearl White Superfluke.
