I wasn't sure where to post this, so my apologizes if it's not in the correct area.

We have a 55 gallon tank with 2 hood lids, and a 4 year old that constantly puts her hands in, food, foreign objects, etc. Worried about illness to her or the fish, as well as it's a PITA to constantly have to replenish the food and/or hide it. Do they make lid locks? Or something of the sort? We can't get glass tops because of the power filter... ideas?

My solution to my five year old: First time he did it, lose his one hour TV privilege for rest of the day. Second time, 2 days...he stopped and asked for permission soon afterwords.

Tried that... time out, loose privileges, toys, etc. Unfortunately she is in 2 different households 50% of the time, so her rules with us don't always apply. Very confusing situation. Especially when "mommy" tells her it's ok to do what she wants at our house.

None of my business of course but I would have a chat with "mommy" about kidsbehavior and whether she really cares more about the kid or being petty.

Once again, been there, done that lol...
It's a very rough and tough situation, mommys theory is allowing a kid to do what they want is the best route and she is the hero in the end.

Maybe I will just end up investing in 1 large lid and some how make a custom lock, not sure what else to do at this point. My ammonia levels are constantly through the roof from all the excess food being put in. And I'm kind of tired of doing all these water changes, which I am sure is a cause for the ick outbreak I'm dealing with now as well.

maybe you can show your kid the consequences of her actions...like dead fish. Other than that, I would just lock up the fish food.
