i heard that ATFs have a life span of only 4 years. is it true? how about other predatory characins like odoe pike? are there any predatory characins with a life span like bichirs (over 10 years minimum)?

I'm no expert but by the size of some of these fish alone I would say that gotta live over 4 years in the right conditions

AFT live for over 20 years. Armatus can live for a long time but most die at around two years for some reason

This.

I'd like to see an ATF that's over 20 yo.

There was a guy who posted a video of his VATF that he had in a 240. It was pushing 2' long. He claims that the fish was 18 years old. It may have been and probably was somewhat stunted, but it was still very impressive. I'd post the vid, but I don't have a link. I'm sure someone will.
