I have a 6 gallon Fluval Edge at home and recently I noticed some small light blue or white spots developing on my driftwood. The spots have spread to the sides of the glass near the bottom of the tank. The spots are tiny, about the size of a pin head. I tried to wipe them off the inside of the glass but they are difficult to remove. They have to be scratched off with a significant amount of pressure. Any idea what they are? They have been there for months w/o any negative side effects to the fish. I have attached some photos. On another note, how do I get rid of Malaysian trumpet snails w/o harming my shrimp?

Just googled nerite snails and I do have one, but only one. I looked at their eggs and this could be what they are. They are very difficult to remove. Any thoughts on removal? Also, will they hatch without another snail around?

There's really no easy way to remove them, they usually just disintegrate after awhile. You can try using an algae scrapper on the glass, but obviously the driftwood is a different story. The eggs won't hatch without more than one snail, and I don't think the baby snails would survive in freshwater anyways.

Assassin snails should get rid of your snail issue. Just put one or two in for that size tank. I am almost 100% sure they don't harm shrimp but it is always wise to read up.
