My redtail is rather light in color and I know it has some to do with what they eat, but still would like others expertise. He is about a year old, water levels are fine, temperature, etc. him and one other redtail are might lighter than my other two. It seems it started after they were moved into the pool about 3 months ago but don’t see any behavior changes. Any ideas???

Most likely from being in the white pond… i think they look good like this ??‍♂️ Lol… ive had a cple stay this way being kept in darker ponds/tanks also.

My husband said the same thing. Just because the pond is white. Just want to get opinions don’t want to lose my babies!! I love the color but didn’t love it if it wasn’t healthy lol. Thank you!!

Are all four RTC in a white pool(s) and only two are paler? If so, this could be a bit strange, unless perhaps this is a gender difference. Total speculation here. Never tried that with our RTCs.

If they are trying to blend in with the environment and it doesn't cost them stress, then it could be healthy. Otherwise, not. But it could be very hard to say if it causes them stress. If they are a bit more skittish than before on dark background, then chances are yes, they are a bit stressed by not being able to blend in enough and be exposed to predatory attack from water, air, and land. Their instinct would tell them they are vulnerable.
