Light cracking glass tops

I have two reptile heating lamps with 60 Watt bulbs till I can buy a better light. I know one glass top had about a inch crack on one side. Just now I heard a bang like if someone hit a window . I checked the top and the crack spread about half thru the sheet of glass. How could provent this from happening and will a fish tank light crack it more?

Try to raise the light off the glass and have it as far from the glass as possible.

The glass is getting to hot or water has came in contact with the warm glass.

Both lamps are proped on 4" blocks.both are collecting sweat from the evaporating water.

Raise them so they are at least 6" from the glass or until the glass lids no longer feel hot.

Fluorescent aquarium light fixtures won't damage glass lids.

Reptile heat lamps are designed to be put over screens not glass lids.

I know that. That's why I used regular bulbs and put them on blocks instead on laying on the glass.
