When I turn the aquarium light on and off the puffer 'jumps' because of the shock of it being bright one second then dark the next... Is this bad for him?

I dont think it will hurt him unless he hits the top but you can always hook up a dimmer on you lights . I have one on mine as I have a JD that goes nuts.

I just got a SAP and I've noticed he does not like the lights it seems like. I've also noticed that tv stresses him out. When I have the TV on at night he will not sleep. My Dwarf Puffer is right next to him and sleeps away with it on but he just paces the tank all night. And of course I sleep with the tv on. I don't know what to do for him I want him to sleep ya know.

My Ceylon puffer "jumps" at the lights sometimes also, but not the tank lights... When I turn on the room light, it seems to startle him. He just comes right up to the surface looking for me to feed him right away tho lol. I don't think there's anything negative about it really. My puffer's almost 5 years old already.

SAPS are unlike all other puffers, they are neurotic. Dont seem to like sound or light. And arent as personable as other puffers

I just got 2 of them. I hope they start to develop some personality. Even if they don't I still love them they are wicked cool fish. I don't think I'll buy any other kind of fish basically besides a Puffer. I have noticed that they don't seem to like the light too much.

No SAPS don't like bright lights... they come from very murky waters and are wild caught.

If possible a dimmer switch is best but "turning on" the lights suddenly ALWAYS freaks them out.
