Light management?

I know you are supposed to only have aquarium lights on for 12 hours but I have a light which replicates the sun and also a light which replicates the moon light. How should I manage THIS schedule?

When you turn the day lights off, the night lights go on. I do 8am-8pm day, 8pm-8am night.

It seems as if my tire track eel will only come out if all lights are off though

Some fish are like that. You could try dimmer day time bulbs.
