Light needed to hatch brine shrimps??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A light is not needed to hatch brine shrimp. However, a light is useful to concentrate the hatched shrimp at the surface to easily net them, in large numbers, in a single swipe without including the hard indigestable egg casings.

i think it helps heat the water a bit idk but x2 on what oddball said

i think light might increase the yield but it is not needed. temp and salinity plays a more important role.

I never consider temp since I heat the hatchery building instead of individual tanks. But, yeah, an unheated hatcher would benefit from a lamp to provide heat for hatching eggs.

If the intention is to raise the shrimp to adulthood, be sure to start up several algae culture jars since the shrimp are green water filter feeders.

The light help to bring em to the bottom not the top. When you turn off air n turn on light at the bottom brine will swim to light n shells will float to top. If you put light at top n net there you'll net shells too! When they swarm the bottom pull your airline hose I strain into net be sure to rinse the brine also before feeding!

their attracted to light so it makes your life easier and finding food for them easier
