Iam having a silver aro in 300g tank. 10" aro. When light is turned on he swim to a corner and stay there. When it is off he swim all over the tank casualty. Iam using. Blue fluorescent light. Any relationship between aro behaviour and light type or colour

I use 5000 k dimmable LED lights. I turn on the lights at a low setting and brighten in stages. I used to have trouble with my aro before I changed up. Used to have to keep him in a tank with no lights. Everytime I turned the lights on he'd freak out to the point of injuring himself. Arowana are definitely sensitive to certain lighting.

I don't know if there is a specific relationship between blue lights and the aro but it is a fact that silvers particularly can be skittish at first
I have never used blue lights only to make them comfortable, like Bigfishnut Bigfishnut , I have dimmable lights

What I used to do is in the morning as I get up, I switch on the lights in the room where the tank is and leave that on for a little while
Then I switched the tank lights on gradually and increased slowly.
Did this for a while until she settled

I followed all your instructions. But during day time when I put on the lights she remain in a corner. When I swtch of the light at night she comes out. Then she appear as she got something like freedom and swim all around the tank.

Dr Seetharam Dr Seetharam ... i know how worried and frustrated you must be.... my instructions were only advice and sharing what worked for us... but it wont work in two or three days.. it will take some time
With some, they come right quickly.. some takes a little longer..
I know it sounds crazy but try to relax a little.. have faith and give her some time
I truly believe that sometimes when we all worried and nervous, our animals and even fish feel this...
Carry on with a routine every day and i have faith that she will come right....

Thanks for your reply. I am thinking of changing colour to pink. To know whether she will be fine with that...

This is so true of arowana. I've kept hundreds of species of fish over the last 3 decades. None are more tuned in to their owners than arowana. I've only kept silvers, but it seems other species of aros are similar. I can totally understand why these fish get there mystical status. They seem to actually be able to feel what their owners are feeling. Sounds crazy I know, but I speak from experience. The other thing with aros is they take far longer to adjust to minor changes than any other fish I've kept. They are a fish that appreciate routine. If I'm even 5 minutes late at feeding time mine starts biting at the lid and getting upset. He does not like anything out of the norm. Any change needs to made gradually over time. I had to keep mine with no lights on the tank for months because he just couldn't get used to the idea. Now he's ok with it. It seems as they approach the 2 foot mark they tend to settle in and gain confidence.

Hehehe Bigfishnut Bigfishnut .. you are so right

We have found silvers to be worse than the asians we have ... they are more skittish..take longer to settle in and get to trust you.
Takes a very long time before they accept strangers approaching the tank and they are MASTERS at sulking...
If he adds, moves, changes anything.. Dragon will sulk and sometimes not eat for up to three weeks!!
I saw my son close to tears many times when she was young.. now we just know the drill... she will eventually snap out of it
It does get better as they get older and they eventually do settle quite nicely although the sulking doesnt seem to go away

Asians are the same but settle quicker, bond with owner very closely and they dont mind people going close to the tank
When it comes to sulking, they also do it.. any changes or goings on in the tank that are not to their liking, they also sulk but usually snap out of it much quicker

Silvers or Asians.. are just magnificent fish and...@ Dr Seetharam... your efforts will be rewarded in time and she will bring you much joy and pleasure
