Can someone explain watts/gallon. So 60 watt for a 20 gallon tank = 3 wpg?

What are the need-to-knows concerning this topic area. Also, any suggestions as to cheap/efficient lights? I plan to grow some anubias, java ferns, pearl weed, and some other things.

I am definitely still new, so please be sensitive! :P

If you have a 20g tank, with the plants you mentioned, shoot for about 2wpg. If you go too much higher, you will have algae issues. I get alot of my lighting from hardware stores (shop lights)...its the cheapest I have found. www.ahsupply.com has good retrofit kits if you want to retrofit your existing light hood.
