Lighting 6' Tank

So im planning on upgrading my lightings for my 6' tank (from the standard 2 36" fixtures + bulbs that came with it. The fixtures holds 24" bulbs...) So yeah, im planning on upgrading the entire lighting set. Are there any recommended lightings you would use for fish only. (No live plants).
Is it better to get 2 36"? or 1 48"? I'm pretty new to lighting so help me out

The come with the bulbs, and a splash guard. On two tanks I have them directly on the glass top, and on one they're mounted. I like the small profile, about 2" x 5.5", and that they've got SLR. The fact they're cheap doesn't hurt either.

I was looking into that, but i heard that the fan is extremely loud.

The 36" freshwater with 2 bulbs doesn't have a fan.

I use two of these on my 6 foot 150g, and I swap out the crappy pink Allglass bulbs for Hagen Powerglo T8 bulbs:

stick with t5ho lighting. the hottest in the market right now. dont go back to old crappy florecent light fixture even dual is crappy and waste energy .IMO. If you want the newest lights available, they have those new LED light fixtures. EXpensive though.

theres talk about cheap lighting and how crappy it is...but i can't justify $300 in lighting when i can get it to look this good with 2 4' shop lights $7 each , each one has a daylightbulb and an actinic bulb just my 2 cents worth
