Hey guys. I am re-setting up my 55 Gallon tank and I am looking to up the lighting prior to doing so.
Here is what I am looking for. I am doing African Cichlids, Mbumas specifically. I would like full spectrum to encourage growth of algae for them to munch on. I like a lot of the new lights that seem to mount onto the tank. What is good? I would like to stay under $200 and a timer would be nice. I wouldn't knock it for having the night lighting, as well. This is going in my office at home, so some nice chill light would be a HUGE plus.
Led, T5? I am not leaning either way at this moment. Long term cost with the electric bill is something I will take into overall cost consideration.
Serviceability is a huge place.
I also would like to keep the tank open, somehow... without the risk of either cat going in, or fish coming out. I was looking at reptile lids.... I also recall seeing people have used egg crate style diffusers. I do have the bar in the middle, for the old plastic lids. I am not attached to this though.
I am currently just in the idea state, so if anyone would like to share things that have worked for them or ideas they would like to do, I am all ears.
Thanks!
