Hi all. I just wanted to check and see what types of lighting people use to bring out the color in theire FHs? I read that Ultruviolet coral reef lighting is good, but wanted to get everyone elses take on it before I spend the cash.

bump...

Since I'm setting up a FH tank soon I've inquired about what type of lighting. While I think a 50/50 configuration would be good. I've also been told that a colormax bulb would be benificial as well.

I was told By Danz the following:
"I would go with a 2 bulbs configuration so you can play with the bulbs to find the best combo to bring out the color in the fish. If the fish you have has a blue pearl base the 50/50 will bring it out and the pink freshwater (colormax) bulb bring out the reds in the fish and its stunning."

That being said I'd consider the coralife 2 bulb T5 fixture. They are sold for about $69.00 or so.

I like the colormax/actinic look, but the t5 you mentioned has some issues with it. In the last six months, I have had 8-10 fixtures returned with ballast issues. I am not sure if the colormax looks as nice in the standard flourescent fixture.

I use a 50/50 and a colormax. looks good thinking about changing the rest of my tanks to the same set up.
