So I need to up the watts on my aquarium lighting for my planted tanks. I'd like to do it myself since it'll save alot of money, especially since it's not just one tank.

I'm thinking of using these bulbs.

now heres where i lose it. Do I need to run a ballast? And if so. how does that work, from the DIY I've read, people have wired them straight to their wall outlets... or internal wiring like you would a ceiling fan.. I want to be able to plug it into the wall... Can you just wire it up so it has a normal 2-3 prong plug? Also I found these 120v to bulb socket adapters. Does this make it insanely easy with a power strip mounted in the canopy, with these installed with bulbs?

Or should i just go the tube florescent route? It just seems like they are lower watts, and more expensive?

I was thinking of using 4-6 of those bulbs I linked, to give me insane light :headbang2

Another thing, those florescent lights, when they themselves take 105 watts, and say they produce 500watts of light.. is it hogwash? seems like a lot of light to be coming out of that light bulb...

And lastly. How many watts can a wall plug handle? I'm guessing about 1800 or so, since portable plug in heaters can go up to that?

Thanks
Cory
