Currently I have my lights on a timer and they're on from 1pm till 11pm since I work during the day and prefer more viewing time in the afternoon/night.

Is there a recommended amount of time to leave your lights on? If it matters I'm using standard fluorescent lighting.

Are there pros/cons to having your lights on longer/shorter?

I'd like to hear this as well.

Currently my tanks are on timers too. ON 330p-12a, OFF the rest of the time.

The recommended time is 8-10 hrs. I doubt it will hurt the fish since you have it set for 9 hrs.
You could change it with daylight savings time to be alil more natural.

On at 7-8am and off again, then on at 5-11pm.

So 7 hours of Aquarium light. But they get natural daylight from 8-5 anyway. The timings are purely for my viewing pleasure.

I heard its not good to turn light on/off twice a day, any one know why?

Never heard that, I guess because the sudden on/off of the light spooks them so having it done twice a day is worse?

I have seen no ill-effects from doing so, and the daylight drowns out the tank light anyway so it is a smooth change-over.

I turn my lights on at 7pm till 12am other then that there off
