Will 2 4' tubes be sufficient for a 6footer?

I'm asking cos that's the biggest fittings they have at the hardware store and I think 2 x 2 3' tubes will be too long..

Thanks!

Two 4 feet flourescent tubes (bulbs) shoul dbe plenty of light :)

On my six foot tank I used two 3' tubes to span the full 6' in the front and behind that used a double tube t-5 fixture from Home Depot $17. I used 18,000K bulbs to really light up my African cichlids. The back top corners of the tank are not very lit up, but it I think it adds to the depth of the tank. also that is where I have my overflow/intakes/returns. no loss not highlighting them.

Thanks for the replies!

I think I'm gonna go with Vince's suggestion ... I want to keep it cheap as my planted tank's lights are already killing my power bill.

I think it will work fine as that is what I use on my SeaClear and it is a 6' tank
I hung a shelf above the tank, hung the light from that & I can adjust the height by adjusting the chains. It works great for me and I have plants in the tank which grow fine.

Cool! I'm just gonna get cheap light fittings and screw them into the hood..
