lighting for an arowana tank??

I just replaced the regular light fixture with a compact ballast and now my lil arowana is hiding down in the plants away from the surface. Will he get accustomed to it or should I keep the tank dimly lit?

I think they prefer filtered sunlight because they come from the tannin rich waters of the Amazon

i use 2 5ft T5 lights, i find that they work great!
i also have a 4ft NAN light which emits a red colour looks great when your showing off your fish.

thank you for your responses. He is back to the surface again. Just had to give him some pellets.
