For a 55G, I would just use one 4 ft'er

Uh maybe I worded it wrong I have a 55 with 2 lighting canopies and was wondering if I can put those on top of my 220 along with an additional canopy I think thier about a little under 2ft but will it be enough to light it up.... Then I also have ballasts 3 2 footers and 2 4 footers and was wondering which one would be more sufficient if at all there from desk lighting's but free:naughty: hope this helps heres another pic

No, I think i just read it wrong. You could mix up the lights by using a 4ft and a 2ft or just use two 3ft'ers. Any way you go should work. Just try to stick to having only 6 ft of lights so you don't "waste" space on top of the tank.

On my standard 210 gallon, I have 1 four foot fixture with cheapo 30 watt bulbs. Lighting in a freshwater non planted tank is solely for the viewer, not for the fish, so use whatever amount of light you find appealing. My 210 is a native tank, so I was shooting for a more subdued look...

OK thanks once its up and going I'll play around with the set ups and see which one is best .

i'd use the lights for the 55g plus the 4ft fixture, since you already have them.
