So I started off with a 250 watt metal halide that I still have on, but it's starting to bleach my corals after 6months. I'm looking into getting LEDs but not really sure if I should just cut the time back on how long I have the lighting on. I have them on for 8 hours daily. I was looking at this led

Thanks for ur help

"Bleaching" from new light sources usually occurs in a week or two not 6 mo. There are quite a few things that can cause coral to loose soft tissue and turn white, the 2 most common after they establish are disease and sudden changes to water quality and stablity. With MH lights the "bleaching" can come from overheated water causing death or flight of the zooxanthellae algae. Alotta MH users employ a chiller to aviod swings in Temp.

Unfortunately the same zooxanthellae needs at least 8hrs of intense light so cutting back on the running time will probably not help your cause.

So maybe switching to LEDs cuz that's cheaper then getting a chiller and don't have room for chiller

LEDS might fix the problem and they might not it's all just a guess if you don't know what's causing the soft tissue loss. Like I said theres alot of stuff that can cause tissue loss.

x2, it's not the MH it's your water

All my water prams are normal, moved acans into shaded spot of tank and within 24 hours they already started to plump back up and a little color is showing. Also it's not all my corals bleaching it's certain ones.
Ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, nitrate is 5 (sometimes is 0), Alk is 9, calcium stable 460. Ph 8.1
