Not really sure where this ought to go.. so here it is. How do you light or would you light a tank with nocturnal predetory fish so you may view them while they are active. As in light it so you can see.. but the fish are still oblivious? I'm thinking LED mooonlighting?

BTW the lighting would be for my Aba aba knife. I'm not sure what spectrum/s they can see in.

atm I run T5's on the tank for the plants during the day but to see him swimming at night I have to blindly take pictures of the tank. which I don't like stressing him, though for the most part he seems unphased by.

I'm not looking for "regular lighting" but enough to be able to watch him swim around the tank and hunt, and poke around. would also make feeding him alot easier.

For my Plecs I tried blue cold cathode moon lights but they acted the same as normal lights. When I switched to red LEDs they acted differently and more active. I couldn't say if this would work for your fish or not. I just got strips from ebay and did a DIY job on them.

When I feed my Aba at night I turn on a green neon sign that is on a wall a few feet away from the tank. This light does not seem to bother him at all.

my BGK comes out when the blue led's are on and never pays them any mind but there plenty bright enough for me to see the tank.

I have noticed that the desk-light i turn on he's gotten use to now and will come out when it's on.. but i think it's more that it's dim enough and he's comfortable enough to come out.. then i've "tricked him"..

TY also for the imput everyone else. think I'mna try the led's

I bought a string of red LED xmas lights and they don't phase any of my nocturnal fish. Cheap too, I got them at the local hardware store for ~$13 (IIRC). They are pretty bright though, so I have the string divided up between 3 tanks.
