Over 500w of lighting like that on your 65g tank is going to be crazy overkill - you will be able to grow low demand SPS on the sand like crazy.

Also I havent heard of either of these brands - not saying they wont work, I was one of the first guys to really push some "budget" lighting on here - but sometimes you just have to be careful. I trod where others hadnt because Im a poor college kid - it worked for me and others let me set up tanks for them with those lights - it worked for them as well and now Im qualified to tell people that those lights will work in a pinch.

So check out www.fishneedit.com and www.aquatraders.com as well.

it will be 400w with everylight on, the halide is 250 watts

442 watts guys. LOL

That is a lot of light and you will be able to grow anything you want in there. You will have to be very careful not to burn lower light corals(mostly LPS and softies).

How are you planning on mounting the light? It looks like 1 comes with legs. Other than that they look pretty much the same and will probably perform similarly.

I agree with Fleshy, because I have seen both his and others lights in action that both Fishneedit and Aquatraders are good places for lights on a budget.

they also sell this light wiht a 150 watt halide would that be better??

Yes and no.

You are just setting up this tank, correct? Have you done reefs before? What do you ultimately want to have in the tank for corals?

Depending on what your plans are, 250 watts might be over kill or it might be ok. Just need a bit more info.

What really matters here is what do you want to put in the tank? I run a simply cheap PC lighting setup in my fish only tank and I still have mushrooms growing all over. If you are wanting to do a reef tank what kinds of coral are you looking to get into, do some research for the lighting requirements of the coral that you like and want to grow. That lighting just seems like overkill unless you really want to grow some hearty sps

im looking into some polyps and mushrooms to start off, then move to some lps and sps. slowly working my way up. if i place the corals correctly in tank would this lighting work??
