I am looking at getting some better fluorescents for my tank. The hood i have is crap and getting worse and i want more light for my plants. I have two setups that i am think of and would like input on the best.

1. 5x 8inch circular fluorescent blubs. 6500k and 910 lumens each. I think 22 watts.

2. 6-8x spiral fluorescent bulbs. 5500k 33watts = 100 watts of regular lights bulbs. 1300 lumens each.

let me know what everyone thinks.

Plants= variety of swords and others

Fish= Discus, Tetras, rainbows, barbs

Tank= 100 gallon deep

Current lights= 3x 48in tube fluorescents. Marine glow and two regulars.

You should get the new Hagen HO T5 as they will do much better than any of the lights you posted. The twist bulbs will burn out extremely fast in a high moisture environment. Your current bulbs are not so good. Turn the marine glo off completely, as they will do nothing good for plant growth.

I don't like that brand, and wouldn't trust the seller, as he lists a 10,000k blue and 10,000K white, which is actually a 10,000K and actinic bulb setup. Look for the Hagen light fixtures.
