lighting problems

this might seem quite trivia but does anybody have any advice about lighting for nocturnal fish. about 90% of my 65g tank comes out at night. i have a moonlight bulb but its just as non effective as an ordinary four foot strip. the tank is really active in the dead of night (viewed under torch light) just looks empty during the day.
