i have my lights on a timer for 9am to 10pm and i was wondering if that's too long or not long enough.

also, i'm really interested in getting night lighting for my little fishtank, but was wondering what i should do. it's only 10 gal, but it's really all i can keep cuz i move twice a year and the bigger the tank, the more of a pain it is to move, lol. so i know i don't need an extravagant light set. mostly, i liked the idea of moonlight for my tank at night, but i had questions. i also like the blue light, but how does that differ in look? i know fish seem to like moonlight, but do they care for the blue light? if nocturnal fish don't see red, do diurnal fish? (i have a pirate ship in the tank that might be kinda neat with red light under it). what light sets should i be looking at for a little moonlight set, and can i hook up a little red light too? will that look wierd in a little tank like mine? ha, sorry for all the questions.

depending on the fish you keep 13 hrs is not too long. daytime is longer most of the time. you really should look more along the lines of a 20g long. in my opinion they are way nicer tanks and still not too hard to move. the tanks shape itself lends to better schooling and it's a whole lot more fun to see the guys being able to swim back and forth. especially with some plants and things to weave through.
but now back on track. the blue or red light shouldn't really matter too much. if u like the red go for it.

as far as brand. the best way to go is shop around u'r lfs and ask what they have available and then pick the one you like. if you still can't decide come back and ask us at least then we know what's available to you instead of recommending something that you have little access to. gl

get a corallife 1watt blue or white led perfect night light...

i got my nightlite off ebay. just search moonlight under the pet section. pretty cheap. my timer turns the day off and the night on for me. my light has blue, green, nd red.
