I am considering converting my 210 into a planted aquarium. with the 30" depth lighting could be tricky.

If anyone has a planted 210g or a 30" deep tank and would like to share thier lighting configuration and a couple pics, I would apreciate it.

Currently the tank has 4x 96w PC.

Thanks for the link, we have the same light.

I'll be watching your thread to see how those plants fill out.

any others out there?

400w metal halides would be overkill. With that much light I could grow SPS corals.

perhaps three 150's or two 250's

Nope dual 400s. You will need metal halide to be able to grow at the bottom of the tank. If you go MH, then you will need CO2. If you are going to have CO2, then you might as well have high lighting.

the 30" depth will be a killer, but 250w MH would get to the bottom just as well. I've followed several threads on other sites where guys were downgrading from 400w to 250's due to heat and electricity issues. They were growing SPS corals, so premium light was a must.

Howdy,

it all depends on what plants you want to grow. Obviously, my plants grow like weeds despite "only" power compacts. Even smaller plants like E. tenellus. If you want to have an Amano Glossostigma elatinoides tank, then you need to go metal halide. The main question is what you want from (in) your planted tank. I went for low maintenance and old school set-up. I don't see the point of spending money on CO2 and (more) expensive lighting if my plants are happy without.

I generaly use crypts for ground cover, so a moderate light is what Im most likely to need at the bottom.

How long has your tank been running Harly? Are you using 6500k or 1000k bulbs?

6700 K

I got the tank in 2005, has been planted since. Interrupted by one move halfway across the country. Set it up again in Feb, I think. Crypts are gonna be just fine with powercompacts and w/o CO2
