Ok, I was just reading the sticky about lighting. according to the equation given, I have a 40g breeder tank.

Dimensions are as followed:

L: 36"
H: 16"
W: 18"

The sticky says (Height*2) + W + L

For mine this comes out to: (16 X 2) + 18 + 36 = 86.

For my lighting fixture I have the 24" dual strip Compact flourescent.

This fixture has two 65watt bulbs at 6700k.

So is this correct?

6700k * 2 = 13400

(16 X 2 ) + 18 + 36 = 86

13400 / 86 = 155.81

So according to the sticky I have Low to moderate lighting.

CORRECT? :screwy: PLEASE HELP

dude i gave up on that thing

Seems about right to me.

Couple examples to see if we are consistent.... My 75G tank. I have a four bulb light, so I will break it up

6500 bulbs
(6500*2) / (48 + 24 + (21*2)) = 13000 / 114 = 114 lumens per gallon

10K bulbs
(10000 * 2) / (48 +24 + (21*2)) = 20000 / 114 = 175 lumens per gallon

Both sets (making an assumption to add the lights)
((10000*2)+(6500*2) / (48+24+(21*2)) = 33000 / 114 = 289 lumens per gallon

Ok I feel a bit better now. Now I expect that "because I have a only a 24" strip of light over a 36" tank the area where the light is covering is only 155.81"- Correct?

Also if I end up buying a new light fixture..."lets say I buy a 36" T5 dual bulb set-up with two 10,000K bulbs the math of my tank would be"-

(10,000k X 2 ) = 20,000k

(16 X 2 ) + 18 + 36 = 86

20,000 / 86 = 232.56

Correct?

Thanks Pharaoh.

What are you trying to determine?

How much lighting I have. I want to know if my lighting satisfies my the requirements of my tank.

I have asked Wyldfya for a little clarification, but that is the general idea that I get from reading the sticky.
