I was thinking of getting a 50/50 light for my 60g tank but i was not sure on how much of a diffrence it will make if any. i would like my tank to be nice and bright and the colors on my fish to stand out more. wat would be my best bet? Thank you for any input.
I got rid of the 50/50 bulbs I had on my tank. I didn't like the blue hue with my freshwater fish (it used to be a reef tank). I replaced them with U.R.I. Aquasun bulbs and I really like the way they bring out the fishes' color.
Best way i have found is to get a 4' flourescent fixture and buy 2 each of 3000k, 4100k, 5000k, 6500k and change them out to see which ones look the best. different color temps bring out different colors in your tank. also depends what color fish and decor you you are trying to enhance, so what i think looks good on mine you may like something different. all the above bulbs are only a couple bucks each. there is also 10,000k 15,000k, etc. which are more expensive. just experiment. good luck
I tried the 50/50 in both flourescent and powercompact. Though the PC was brighter, I was still not pleased. I ended up going with one 10K blub and one Actinic bulb. I like the look. I run them in PC form on an african tank, and in flourescent form on a tank with my flowerhorns.
