I just recently setup 4 20 gallon tanks in a rack. I want to use lighting that will allow me to grow plants that require the higher light. What would be my cheapest way to do this? I seen some 2ft lights at lowes the other day that were T5 HO but I really didn't look at them too much.

HO lights are weird, in that the lamps usually are not interchangeable (each brand fixture will only take that same brand lamps). So be sure the fixture you choose has lamps available that are good for plant growth.

Are you sure the Lowe's fixtures are HO? My Lowe's only carries NO T5 fixtures, and not many of them.

I dont think those lights you saw were T5HO, they were most likely normal output T5s. and yeah, each bulb is slightly different lenght. but i have used different bulbs with different fixtures fine. some fit tight, some fit loose, but they still work just fine

they were t5 ho lights. Instead of using a light strip could I use something else? I seen in a catalog halogen lights for a tank. Could I use halogen shop lights? or would they head up too much.

Tanks are setup in 2 rows with 2 columns. Lights wont be seen so i dont care how they look.

stay away from halogens for aquariums. too yellow, too hot
