I'm hoping some folks can help me come up with an idea or two.

I have a 125g 72 x 18 planted FW tank that currently does not have a canopy. I'm trying to come up with a lighting solution that isn't terribly expensive. I had considered going 2x36" lighting fixtures, but the exhausts on the T5 HO fixtures I bought are on the sides so they feed into each other.

I don't currently have a canopy, but I'd like to build one. All the lights I see aren't safe to put into a canopy due to heat. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fairly cheap 72" T5 HO fixture, particularly one that can go inside a canopy? Or some other solution?

Much appreciated.

here's some other cheap options for T5HO lights. they seem to have a pretty good rep. cant beat it for the price. and i think T5s in a canopy should be fine, just build it so the back of the canop remains open

check this out!!! i went to LFS AND BOUGHT A GLO T5 HO. WHICH JUST THE POWER SOURCE FOR THE BULBS. ITS 2 BY 54WATTS. AND I BOUGHT THE T5 BULBS A POWER GLO AND A LIFE GLO. IT ALL CAME OUT TO 134.00. AND IT WRKS GREAT. REMEMBER IF YOU ARE GONAA HAVE LIVE PLANTS YOU NEED 2 WATTS PER GALLON. CHECK IN YOUR LFS AND YOU WHAT THEY HAVE FOR THERE TANKS. MOST LFS DONT USE THAT EXPENSIVE LIGHTING. I ALWAYS LOOK AT LFS TANKS TO SEE HOW AND WHAT THEY USE AND GO FROM THERE

I haven't had much luck myself, I think "fairly cheap 72" T5 HO fixture" may be a misnomer. The one I'm considering for my 135 is:

Catalina 72 inch SILVER SOLAR T5 HO - 2 X 80W

Thanks for the link. This actually looks closer to what I want, as the exhaust is on the top. I think I'll go with this- just need to figure out a way to mount it on the, as yet unbuilt, canopy.
