Lighting Question

Hi guys
Off to Mexico next weekend and am starting to think about things fishtank related, so i'm thinking of turning the lights off permantly while i'm away.
Is this an an unwise move? Would it have any bad affects on the Rays and Aro's?

just buy a timer. i have a timer so my lights turn on at 11 and off at 8:30

Sorry i should have said, they are on a timer, its just that have had a few probs ref grren spot algae etc although I seem to have it under control now i'm just scared that as im not there for over 2 weeks i dont want to come back to a disaster sight....
