Ok, i know it may seem silly but not much money at the moment.
was just wondering whether a desk lamp, with a 60 watt bulb would do for lighting a 12 gallon to grow a few really low light plants.
Whether it will work or not, if know one knows, i'll experiment and find the answer, lamps got mirrors and all in it, extremely bright and i'm just curious to see if it will work atleast for a couple of months :)

incandescent bulbs are no good for growing plants. replace the bulb with one of the spiral CFL bulbs thats about 6000k+ and you should be good.

to bunnings in the morning :D
thanks for the advice man i love my planted tanks, just can't afford proper lighting right now, and didn't want to just chuck away the pruning.
already set up another tank from the original, and now it needs to be cut back a bit before my friends have no where to swim :)

CFL's only cost a couple bucks...its probably the cheapest way you can light your tank. I just got CFL's on my tank. We will see. I had pennywort pearling last night, but thats like saying you put your hand on the stove and got burned...

yep yep, i got the new globe and what a difference, only 24 hours (about 16 hours with the light on) noticable new growth, roots and all coming out of my plants, i think this globe is doing better then the others...
granted its 125W on a 12 gallon lols.
but still for just random stems i cut of my main plants because they weren't growing the right way, difference is huge, gonna start taking some pictures of it, and do a little thing with intial growth, then growth after a month :)
