I have heard some plants need 3-5 watts per gallon for lighting. My light is a straight pin 6500 k 36 watt bulb, does that mean I need 3-4 of them for my 29 gallon tank or no?
ok, I just have some anubias in there right now with some Taiwan moss, a banana plant and duckweed. How fast will the Taiwan moss and anubias grow? I'm not familiar with them, would the light be ok for them (I have it on 8 hours a day). Note that it said anubias need 2-3 watts per gallon, does that mean anubias won't be ok in my tank? I have an extra 6500k 36 watt bulb if it helps and I use thrive as a fertilizerWith that level of light you'll need co2 injection, that's extremely high light. A 36W light will be capable of growing some of the smaller plants easily, stay away from the needy stuff for now. More light = more co2 and fertiliser for the plants to properly capitalise.
my gold dojo loaches eat duckweed, what about Taiwan moss?Anubias is a very slow grower, duckweed though, that's very quick growing, even with your low lighting it will probably cover your tank and block the light to the other plants in a few weeks.
I have it on a bonsai tree driftwood that I'm trying to make look like a tree. I did get a bit of java moss into my tank once when I was getting fish they got some of that moss, I just put it in the tank and it did fine, didn't grow or die offI'm not familiar with Taiwan moss. From pics I'd guess it would be a lot like java moss that I do have experience with. Nasty debris catcher that then breaks loose, clogs your filters and kills everything while you're away.
I'm not a fan of it.![]()
I don't have to worry about the duckweed, my dojo loaches eat it, how fast will the moss grow?If by straight pin you mean you are using flourescent tube lighting such as T5 bulbs then then that should be more than enough for a low light setup...
Too much light or not enough plants to use up nutrienets and you may find algae outbreaks happening...
However, the fact you have duckweed should help avoid that problem as long as it doesnt cover your tank surface so much it doesnt let any light through at all killing the plants below...
Anyway, about the anubias, they are some of the slowest growing plants around so i wouldnt worry too much about them... just mainly the moss you’ll need to keep clean to prevent too much free floating debris getting trapped in there over time causing dirty water...
