i read on live aquria that you need some form of decent lighting for live rock is this true i'm gonna get started on making my own live rock tonight

i dont think it needs light. unless the algae which is what mostly makes it "live" (except for the bacteria) needs light which it probably does.

they also dont need heating. my LFS has a LR tank thats pretty cold but theyres a light on it (i think for better algae growth)

yeah.. it wont 'die' without a light.. there will just be little/no algea growth without any..
