what is the best bulb combo to use on my 180 g. freshwater. i want to add a couple of plants but mostly fish. i want the colors to pop

Depends on the plants you want to put in the tank. Low light plants like Anubias, crypts and java ferns and moss dont require a lot of light.
there is no right answer, but I am pretty happy with a combination of 6700K and 10,000K lighting on my planted tanks . . .
if you want your fish colors to "pop", I have seen some people recommend 18,000K (Power-Glo?) and you may also want to consider actinic

May I suggest Current's Satellite line - either single strip dual lighting (white/actinic)/lunar led light
or dual Satellite with dual whites & dual actinics which has 3 switches - fan, white, actinic. can use all lighting at same time or how I like to use just white during day, just actinics evenings & just lunar during sleep.

I had separate post to compare compacts vs. T5's, many like the T5's. they are less cost to run, bulbs less cost & last longer, run cooler than compacts.
