I have 3 different lights right now but I am thinking about changing to a whitish sand substrate from my black and I was wondering on what type of light will give me that blueish glow that's almost like a blacklight. I bought a black light fort tank but the luminescence isn't enough to light up the entire tank. I read that the actinic lights are the ones that saltwater tanks use to have that effect and I was wondering what to do

i have a mixture of the black and white cichlid sand you can get at petsmart and use two LED lights that switch from white to blue on my 55. lights it up pretty well and the sand looks wild with the blue light on it

actinic will give you that super blue glow, especially on a white bottom. If you want that white to show, try a 10,000k bulb, This light also shows off a lot of the 'muted' colors of some fish.

+1, my fish look totally different with the actinic light on them. i love it, makes it look like new fish and changes it up

I run a 10k and actinic combo on all my tanks. I supplement with other kinds of bulbs but I usually start with the 10k/460 duo.
I prefer colors in the blue spectrum so I tend to lean that way.

like other's have said, get a higher temp bulb, 10K to 14K but sometimes it's kinda purple

Okay so understand that actinic is blue, but there are different types of actinic lights. The petstore has t5 and t8 and some others but I have no idea which one to get still
