at the moment i have 2 lights, one moonlight blue the other a white light for the best spectrum. But the tank seems really inactive as i have many nocturnal fish, just wondering if there any mix of lighting that would bring my fish out of their hide outs a bit more cant remember the wattage of my lighting,it is prety bright though.

As aqiuck fix put some black electrical in strips along the bright bulb to dim it and see if they come out. Saves buying bulbs just to experiment. Try a red film to tint the bright light may do it too. Unless it's dark in the room, the outside light will spook them too.

Keep us posted.

To dim my lights down I wrapped the bulbs with tin foil. Just add or remove as much as you want to get your desired look. I ended up covering half of each bulb. Nice thing with tin foil is that is disapates the heat.

Auto window tint at walmart or an auto parts shop is cheap. Ya can buy any level of tinting, or several fairly clear ones and layer them.
