How long should I leave my lights on during the cycling time on my SW setup? The local SW expert say not to leave them on for more than a couple hours a day to prevent bad things from growing. Does the live rock need more light than that?

I would just run it the same amount of time your planning on having them on when its all setup. You will def end up getting some algae but once you add some herbivores you will get that under control within a few weeks.
