i received a 6'' black diamond rhom and everytime the lights go on he goes half nuts and I'm worried hes gonna break heaters ect... is this a common thing?

for now I keep the lights off

Lights may be too bright and putting lights on a timer will help. I personally suggest dimming a area or floating plants.

My reds sometimes do this when I turn up the lights. And yes, they have broken a number of heaters because of it. But for the most part, their tank lights are on dim.
