Magic Place Of Wonders And Delights
Do oscars hate bright light will the light drive him crazy :nilly: or do they like a bit of light and should i get floating plants or should i just leave it off????.

If you are keeping Oscars they are going to demolish any real plants anyway, so dont worry about the lighting level. Get lights that are bright enough to let you see the fish, but not so bright that they need to wear shades

Cheers

Ian

Oscars hate bright lights. I use normal aquarium lights, with pieces of aluminum foil to cut the light intensity down. Makes them happier.

I would think most fish that are from the Amazon River wouldn't like a whole lot of light due to being in tea-colored water. (I know almost all oscars you get are farm-raised, just speaking evolutionarily or whatever.) I'm sort of wondering the same. I would like to get a dual 48" T5 HO fixture for my 55g, but I don't wanna drive my fish crazy. I should be okay using just one bulb (am planning on using the lighting for another tank later).

I never put the same length light over the length of a tank.on a 48 long tank i would put a 30 in light, that way its not so bright all my cichlids seem to dislike bright lights and come out alot more when there are shady areas.

that answers my question :) I was thinking i wanted 36" for my future tank (partial light, partial darkness), so I think I will go w/ that. 30" is too short for what I want, though.

I know cichlids are supposed to hate light, but mine loves them. Well, not them... But they seem to have the idea that when the lights come on it's feeding time. As soon as I turn them on they come flying to the top and wait there lol
