In the last couple of days I have been playing around with various lights on the fish tanks, and I must say, I am going to downgrade on all of my fish tanks. I started with my 55 gallon with a 4’ light system, I put a 2’ light on it and besides looking much better my fish seem much more secure which results in greater color! Not only that but my catfish come out in the middle of the day looking for food now!

It's darker and looks very natural, fish love it.

Try it, see if you like it..!

I have gone from two lights on some of my tanks to just one to dim the tank and I like it much better and the fish seem to as well.

Also like you said the two catfish and pleco in one tank are much more active during the day.

I like more light, one of my tanks needs more lighting and doesn't bring out the colors of the fish.

I tend to prefer bright lighting on planted tanks but that is just me.

i've been using subdued light for a while on some of my tanks, it is quite nice, wish they made long casings for small lights though so it would look like a complete set and not light it up so much

Yeah I agree, I just have one light one my 55 and there is to much of a gap and it somewhat bugs me.

When I replaced the ballast in my 75g light I got the wrong one(t12)but put it in anyway:crazy: The light is dimmer and made a rally nice mellow effect to the lighting

On my 125g African cichlid tank I have two 36" bulbs spaning the 6' tank across the front, and a two bulb, 4' fixture behind those fixtures. I use 3 differant kinds of 18,000k bulbs to cover differant spectrums and the fish colors look awesome. The darker top, back corners, caused by the 4' light over the 6' tank, helps de-emphasizing the overflow and inlets and returns.
